GOVERNMENT

Community leaders serve as role models in the areas in which they serve. Since it is important for role models in the community to display positive character qualities, it is only natural for our government, and its leaders to become involved in the Character First! training program. 

THE STATE OF ALABAMA 

Governor Bob Riley Signed the State of Character Act (2008-526) on June 9, 2008 to reaffirm and Redesignating Alabama a State of Character and Pledging to Promote Character.  Click here to see this act.

 

 

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY

  • Tuscaloosa County Sherriff’s Office
  •  Police Dynamics – The Tuscaloosa Sherriff’s Department has presented the Police Dynamics Seminar a number of times in order to train all of their Deputies.  For more information about the Police Dynamics Seminar please visit the website: http://www.characterfirst.com/training/police/ Sherriff Department Deputies that serve as School Resource Officers have completed a course developed by the Tuscaloosa Character Council that teaches them how to use the character qualities and training material in their work with students.

 

  • License Commissioner Office – Each month the License Commissioner has a team meeting in which Jerry Lake, Executive Director, Tuscaloosa Character  Council presents a training session on the character quality of the month.  The License Commissioner’s Office is currently working their way through the 49 Character qualities.      

 

 

CITY OF TUSCALOOSA

Because of the progressive leadership in the City Of
Tuscaloosa, every city   department has successfully completed character training on the 49 character qualities in the Character First! program.  Some departments are continuing to emphasize one character quality each month in an effort to continue presenting a good example to our community.  Click here to see the City of Tuscaloosa  Resolution.  The City of Tuscaloosa became the first city in Alabama to become a “City of Character”.  There are many cities appro ximately 171 http://www.charactercities.org/aboutus/charactercities/  throughout the United States and the world that have committed to become “Cities of Character.”  Click here to see a list of cities that have been designated a city of character.                                 

Other Cities of Character in Alabama

The Tuscaloosa Character Council has helped other cities begin a Character Council or Coalition in their area.  Two other cities in Alabama that have established character councils are the City of Prattville http://pacharacter.org/  and the City of Opelika.
