The Tuscaloosa Character Council
The Tuscaloosa Character Council is a 501c(3) non-profit organization composed of a group of volunteers from the community who believe in the value of good character and the role it plays in building successful relationships across all sectors of the community. The Council’s common goal is to create “a great community in which to live, a community of excellence, and a community of character.”
In January 2000, the City of Tuscaloosa passed a resolution establishing Tuscaloosa as a “City of Character”—the first city in the state of Alabama to receive such a designation. Out of this distinguished recognition grew the creation of the Tuscaloosa Character Council whose daily operation is under the direction of an Executive Director and a Board of Directors who represent various sectors of the community – business, faith, education, government, media, and family. A vibrant, energetic network of community leaders and volunteers work tirelessly to create an awareness of the Council’s mission and how the development and practice of good character qualities can benefit all sectors of the community, thus “establishing a culture of character.”
